Today’s “Child of the Week” blog has been written by Claire, who has been Hua Mei’s teacher for two months!

Hua Mei (May) is a very loveable little girl who made all our hearts melt instantly. When she first arrived at Bethel, she was very shy and was unable to walk or speak much. Since then, it has been wonderful to see her thrive. She has grown into a wonderful child, full of love, life, and confidence. Her sweet laugh, her high-fives (adorably pronounced “figh five”), and her high-pitched voice proudly saying “Good job, Hua Mei!” will always keep you coming back for more. We love her very much and it is a blessing to have her with us at Bethel.Untitled.jpg

Hua Mei has been learning English for a couple months now, and she is clearly very eager to do so. She repeats everything you say all day long, so she is learning very quickly. She has recently been learning about her body parts; from head and cheeks to belly and feet, she knows about 20 of them and happily demonstrates it. It is truly adorable, and you can watch a video of her doing it here on facebook!

Some of her most beautiful qualities are curiosity, independence, and openness. Thanks to them, Hua Mei is a very capable four year-old and is growing very quickly. Around strangers, she is very confident and doesn’t hesitate to say hello. She likes to take care of herself and might even briefly get mad at you for trying to help her. But whenever she needs a little assistance, love and cuddles, she comes to you with arms wide open!

UntitledHua Mei has been wearing an eye-patch a couple hours a day for the past few weeks in order to improve her vision. When she has it on, she looks like a little pirate – might as well say she is the cutest pirate you have ever seen, and the only one with princess stickers on her eye-patch!

Hua Mei is a delight to be around and will brighten your day without fail. Since she arrived at Bethel, she has made tremendous improvements. We cannot wait to see what this little ball of cuteness has in store for us (and for the world) in the future!

We are currently unable to provide information about Hua Mei’s adoption status, but she is available for sponsorship! To sponsor this cute little pirate princess, email tabitha@bethelchina.org and watch her as she grows and lives a life to the full!
